Authorities are investigating after two fetuses were found on a city bus in Baltimore over the weekend, police said.
A bit after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, a Maryland Transit Administration bus driver discovered a fetus on a seat in the bus, said the Baltimore Police Department in a statement sent to USA TODAY.
Initial reports indicated only one fetus had been found on the bus, but police confirmed Monday that a second fetus was discovered. The department did not specify when the second fetus was found.
Police also declined to comment on how far along the fetuses were in their gestation.
According to the chief medical examiner's office, both fetuses were stillborn.
MTA police, Eastern District officers and homicide detectives responded to the call. Homicide authorities took over the case.
The fetuses were transferred to the medical examiner's office.
The investigation is ongoing, and this story will be updated as more information is released.
